The tea consists of the husks, sometimes called shells, that surround the cacao beans. During the production of ceremonial cacao, after the fermented & sun-dried beans arrive from the farms; they are roasted over wood fire in order to gently toast the beans & loosen the surrounding husks. The toasted beans are peeled, by hand, to remove the surrounding husk. Then the beans are grinned to create ceremonial cacao blocks; whereas the toasted husks can be consumed as tea or used as fertilizer.

Cacao tea is a much lighter alternative to ceremonial cacao, especially for anyone who is too sensitive to a gentle dose of ceremonial cacao. For those on strong doses of anti-depressants or anti-epileptics, starting with cacao tea can be a great option.

After you drink the tea, please compost - the husks are a great fertilizer!

Cacao is great for hair and skin; and leftover tea makes a great hair mask. Used husks can be dried & preserved for use as an ingredient in DIY herbal products, such as salt scrubs. Simple salt scrub recipe: Epsom salt + cacao husks + organic lavender flowers + organic oil + a few drops of your favorite essential oils. To increase the intensity of the cacao scent, you can first infuse the organic oil with cacao husks.
